Hi all, hope you're well!

There's work being done in the square in Newtown where the markets are usually held so the markets aren't running and probably won't be back until the end of the year/early next year.

So unfortunately our June bake sale was our last for 2011. To make up for this, we've decided to organise a picnic pot luck for our friends and supporters:

Date: Saturday, September 24, 2011

Time: 12pm

Where: Camperdown Memorial Rest Park (just down the road from the markets)

Bring: a vegan dish to share and any picnic gear you have (blanket, plates, containers etc)

June bake sale wrap-up

What a gorgeous sunny winter day we had on Saturday! Big thanks to everyone who contributed by baking or buying — we raised $809.90 in total! After Christchurch suffered more quakes on the 13th (on top of the numerous aftershocks since February), we decided our coins would go to Animal Aid: Christchurch Earthquake Relief. That makes $675 for NSW Animal Rescue, and with the exchange rate, $174 for Christchurch (SAFE is redistributing collected funds to various groups in the Christchurch/Canterbury area).

We had one of our prettiest tables ever, with lots of cupcakes in Black Forest, tiramisu, peanut butter chocolate, lemon, carrot cake, banana split, linzer torte, lemon blueberry and chocolate, oatmeal cranberry cookies, panforte, little fruit tarts, three kinds of focaccia, potato-topped mushroom lentil pies, zucchini muffins, little owl-shaped gingerbreads, peanut butter blondies and even a bit more. Sydney Vegan Bake Sale - June 2011

Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale April 2011

Hello again! The Sydney Vegan Bake Sale will be participating in the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale which takes place this year, April 23 - May 1. This is the third year that we've held a bake sale for the WVBS and it's always a fun time of year because it's how we started out and it's great to know that hundreds of vegan bake sales are taking place around the world!

Our bake sale will be on Saturday, April 30 at the Newtown Square Markets, 8am - 2pm. All proceeds will be donated to Brightside Farm Sanctuary in Tasmania!

Sydney Vegan Bake Sale March 2011

Thank you so much to everyone that supported the bake sale, we raised $869.40 for the Queensland Disaster Appeal! And we sold out despite it raining on and off all morning.

A huge thank you goes to Rubyfruit, a bakery in the Blue Mountains, they donated some of their gorgeous cupcakes and their very popular cheezecakes!

Sydney Vegan Bake Sale for the floods

The Sydney Vegan Bake Sale returns for 2011 with a bake sale to raise money for the flooding in Queensland. We'll be donating proceeds to the Premier's Fund.

We'll be at the Newtown Square Markets, Saturday March 5 from 8am until 1pm (unless sold out earlier).

We always have plenty of baked goods for sale but if you are interested in contributing, please email me first.

Sydney Vegan Bake Sale Nov 2010

November is such an unlucky month for our bake sale. Last year it was a bazillion degrees and all of our cupcakes turned into cupcake soup. Today it was fah-reezing and it rained, a lot.

We set up first thing but by 7am it was raining lightly on and off. We had a few customers from 8am but by then it was pouring and we were all soaked.

We packed up by 9am and some of the baked goods went to Naked Espresso as a few of the staff baked for us so we returned their goods. I've been told customers were purchasing them so I should have an updated total later this afternoon. [Edit: We raised $361!]

The rest of the baked goods will be donated to the Vegan Society's cake & tea stall at the Cruelty Free Festival, so get down there tomorrow to snap up some of your favourites!

Thanks to Bel and M.L for helping with the organisation and to Ingrid who baked and stood in the rain with us. And a huge thanks to Leigh for selling baked goods for us at Naked Espresso! Also thanks to everyone who baked for us and who dropped by to make a purchase even though it was raining!

Our proceeds will be going to Charlie's Angels Horse Rescue. If you missed out today but would like to contribute, you can make a donation directly to them.

Our next bake sale will be Saturday November 6, 8am - 1pm at the Newtown Square Markets.

All proceeds will be donated to Charlie's Angels Horse Rescue, a not-for-profit sanctuary for neglected, homeless and abused horses in Queensland.

Our bake sale will be a few days after the Melbourne Cup so we're hoping to raise awareness about the horse racing industry while supporting a good cause.

Sydney Vegan Bake Sale August 2010

Our August bake sale took place yesterday and we had a fantastic day. The markets were busy and there were plenty of happy, hungry customers eagerly awaiting vegan baked goods.

We raised $1179.70 which will be split between Donkey Welfare with Heart and Sydney Pet Rescue and Adoption.

Thanks to everyone that helped out and baked for us and to everyone that stopped by to make a purchase and support our bake sale.

Sydney Vegan Bake Sale June 2010

Yesterday rain and thunderstorms were forecast but luckily for us the rain held off and we were able to have our bake sale with no problems!

The markets were really quiet due to the weather and the new council policies but we had plenty of people drop by to make a purchase and it was great to see our regular crowd plus meet some new customers too!

We raised $994.45 for A Poultry Place in Canberra! Thank you to everyone who helped out and made a purchase, we couldn't do it with out you!

Update for Sydney Vegan Bake Sale June 2010

We're on again this month, we'll be at the Newtown Square Markets (across the road from the train station) on Saturday June 26 from 8am until 12 midday - yep, that's right, we're finishing earlier this month so make sure you drop by during the morning to make your purchase.

We'll have gluten free and sugar free options as well as savoury baked goods for anyone who's not into sweet treats!

All proceeds will be donated to A Poultry Place, a sanctuary in Canberra for neglected chickens, turkeys, ducks and other poultry.

Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale - Sydney 2010

On Saturday we held our Sydney Vegan Bake Sale as part of the second Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale!

Our charity this month is Edgar's Mission and sadly during the week we heard the news that sanctuary's first rescue animal, Edgar Alan Pig, had passed away. Edgar had been at the mission for 7 years and had toured Australia educating people about the life of pigs in Australia. Our bake sale was in Edgar's honour and our thoughts are with Pam and the staff at Edgar's Mission.

We had lots of baked goods for sale and it was a fairly busy day at the markets, despite it being a long weekend. We sold out by 1 pm (apologies to anyone that missed out) and we raised $940!

Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale 2010

We're back for this year's Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale! Last year over 100 bake sales took place and over U$25,000 was raised.

We're really excited to be involved again and it's our first bake sale for 2010! We will be at the Newtown Square Markets on Saturday April 24 from 8am until 2pm, unless we sell out early. The markets are now run by the council and each stall has to apply for a permit in advance so we shouldn't have any issues with not being allowed to set up this year. Keep an eye out for our new poster:

This month our proceeds will be donated to Edgar's Mission, a not-for-profit sanctuary for abused and neglected farm animals. Belinda, one of our awesome bakers, recently visited the sanctuary and took some photos of the beautiful animals that live there.

We're looking forward to seeing all of our regular customers again and hopefully meeting some more vegans too! November 2009 Sydney Vegan Bake Sale

Yesterday we had our November bake sale and the last bake sale for this year. The markets were unusually quiet but that may have been due to the heat, it was such a hot day that by lunch time my cupcakes were covered in icing-soup!

I made gluten free cupcakes: banana split, cookies n cream, choc peanut butter, choc vanilla minis as well as gingerbread cookies.

Belinda made vanilla slice tarts, choc mint melty cookies, muffins, banana bread, choc brownies and lamington cupcakes that were snapped up really quickly.

Our first visitor was Leigh, she made lemon melting moments, gluten full and gluten free, before heading off to work at Naked Espresso where I went later for a yummo breakfast.

Shortly after Sarah dropped off a gluten free orange poppyseed cake.

Jim and his mates dropped by with lots of baked goods: peanut butter cookies, vanilla cupakes with cream cheeze-walnut icing and choc-espresso cookies.

Zarah donated some rum balls which according to one customer "were evil!". They then returned and bought another 3!

Mandie came to help out at the stall and bought with her some mini mocha cupcakes

And Mel also came to help out and bought oat spice cake-lets.

We packed up at 1.30pm as the heat was getting to be a bit much and the markets weren't buzzing like they usually are. We raised $409 for Brightside Farm Sanctuary.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by to make a purchase and for donating baked goods to the stall. A BIG thank you to Bel and Dave for setting up, running the stall and packing up and to Mandie and Mel for running the stall and packing up.

I got to Newtown this morning but couldn't set up for the bake sale as a climate change event has the area booked.

Sorry to anyone who baked for us, you'll have to share the goodies with your friends and family as will we (I have 8 dozen cupcakes... cupcake party at my place anyone?!)

Thank you from Donkey Welfare with Heart

Yesterday we received a thank you card from Christine at Donkey Welfare with Heart. She thanked us for the generous result of $1000 and said no one else has ever raised that much for them.

She also included a photo of a trio of donkeys they have recently taken in. They were on the way to the knackery but now they are happy and healthy, living at Donkey Welfare :) Their names are Abdul, Guinevere and Duffy.

Donkey Welfare is also having an event, Sunday November 8. You can meet the donkeys, the volunteers and their will be food and market stalls. You can read more about it in the Cruelty Free Shop newsletter and you need to RSVP if you intend to go along.

THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to the $1000 we raised last month, it was very much appreciated by Christine and the volunteers at Donkey Welfare.

Charity chosen for October 2009 bake sale

This month our bake sale will be on Saturday October 24, 8am-2pm. Because it takes place only a few weeks before the Melbourne Cup we wanted to support a charity that takes in and cares for ex-race horses.

I couldn't find a sanctuary that is solely dedicated to ex-race horses but Brightside Farm Sanctuary in Tasmania has taken in 52 horses and ponies over the last 18 months, most were thoroughbreds and destined for the knackery.

So for October our proceeds will be donated to Brightside Farm Sanctuary to help them continue the fantastic work they do.

September 2009 Sydney Vegan Bake Sale

On Saturday we had our September Sydney Vegan Bake Sale. The morning started off a bit dusty and the skies were a weird yellow but eventually they cleared. It was windy all day but we managed to hang on until 2pm when we sold out.

We raised $946.25 at the bake sale and then that evening Renee generously offered to donate $53.72 to bring our total to $1000! This month the proceeds go to Donkey Welfare with Heart.

It was a busy day on Saturday despite the windy weather and we had people visit the stall from as far as Wollongong and Newcastle. The crowd was mostly vegan but we did have some non-

vegans who made purchases for their vegan friends/relatives.

We also had a few requests for items people would like to see us selling or for items we've had previously but didn't have this time. If you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to comment, tweet or email us!

We also really appreciate people who bring along their own containers. We would love to only use recycled paper products but plastic is cheaper so if you know of a cheap source of eco-friendly packaging, let us know. We ran out of containers by midday (I'd forgotten to buy some more, oops!) but luckily we had a donation of strawberry containers from Kelsey and M.L went and bought some from a shop in Newtown.

Thank you to everyone who dropped by to make a purchase, baked something for us and a big thanks to Belinda who baked lots of goodies and helped out at the stall for most of the day.

We are really enjoying doing these bake sales, we get to meet lots of Sydney vegans and do something good for the animals at the same time :D

The DIY Markets are not on the last Saturday of October (31st) as there's a festival on. We're thinking of having our bake sale the Saturday before, October 24. Because it's only 2 weeks before the Melbourne Cup we'll have a horse-theme hopefully to raise people's awareness about the racing industry.

Check back for more updates on if the October bake sale will be going ahead. We were thinking of having a stall at the Cruelty Free Festival when Sarah, the organiser, offered but Leigh will be doing a demo (make sure you check it out!) and I will be volunteering.

On another note, there are other smaller stalls selling baked goods at the DIY Markets. Some people have gone to them thinking they were us. We'll always have our banner up so just look out for that!

September SVBS Update

So we're just found out there is a possibility of another dust storm in Sydney over the weekend. It probably won't be as bad as the one on Wednesday but we don't want to be selling dusty vegan baked goods!

So, we will still be at the markets tomorrow unless it's really dusty/windy day. Check here, our twitter or facebook group for updates tomorrow morning.

Also, if you know you'll be dropping by you could bring some of your own plastic/tupperware containers along as we're running low on the plastic ones we give out and it's better for the environment, thanks!

Charity chosen for September Sydney Vegan Bake Sale

We've chosen to raise money for Donkey Welfare with Heart Inc. They're located in Bishop's Bridge, NSW.

They provide care for sick, injured, orphaned or unwanted donkeys. It was started in 1976 and they rely on volunteers and donations so please drop by our bake sale, Saturday September 26 at the Newtown DIY Markets, 8am - 3pm and purchase some yummy vegan treats or make a donation online.

July Sydney Vegan Bake Sale

Yesterday we had our first Sydney Vegan Bake Sale! It started off a very cold morning but eventually there was plenty of sunshine which along with some hot coffee and brekky from Naked Espress helped us thaw out!

I spent Friday baking and managed to churn out 7 dozen gluten free cupcakes (banana split & cookies n cream) as well as some gluten free gingerbread & chocolate biscuit sammiges and some date and coconut balls. ML. made lemon and chocolate cupcakes in regular size and lots of minis. Leigh made lots of cookies (triple choc, mint choc and pb choc), mini cherry pies (gf and non-gf), custard tarts and chocolate truffle towers.

We had lots of donations throughout the day including two batches of chocolate peanut butter cupcakes, chocolate chip cookies, panforte, choc cherry cake, lemon gem cupcakes, lemon vanilla shortbread, choc cherry slice, biscotti, caramel slice, chocolate crackles, maple cupcakes, coconut raspberry biscuit sandwiches, banana muffins, chocolate ganache cupcakes and chocolate cake.

And a verrry cute staffy that visited our stall :)

We stayed until 3 pm as we had more to sell this time, at one point we were inundated with donated baked goods and had to find room for them all!

We made $1152.75 all up and this will be donated to NSW Animal Rescue. Thank you to everyone who helped out, baked for us and purchased something from the stall!

We'll be taking a break in August but we'll be back at the Newtown DIY Markets, Saturday 26 September.

Heyahhh!

After the success of our stall for the Worldwide Vegan Bake Sale we've decided to have a bake sale on a more regular basis.

The Newtown DIY Markets are on monthly so we will probably be there most months but I'll keep you updated here as well as on twitter.

Our next bake sale will be on Saturday July 25 which is less than 2 weeks away (eek!) We will be selling from 8am and hopefully we'll be there until 3 pm, unless we sell out again!

All proceeds from July's bake sale will be going to NS W Animal Rescue. They are a rescue centre that take a special interest in older, small breed dogs and cats. They also have a no-kill policy and are run by volunteers.
